Life events and issues Maggie and Simon have engaged with in their lives and profession are many and varied and include managing difficult emotions, socialisation, anxiety and stress, relationships, instilling mindful behaviour, resilience, self-esteem and valuing, life skills, anger management, bullying, organisational and school related issues and addressing personal responsibility. Openness and flexibility are constants in Maggie’s and Simon’s approach with safeguarding and confidentiality being central to the work that Spero does.
“The Reflective Group sessions helped us to get our focus and share best practice”. This in a thank you note from a group working in the helping professions who were transitioning to new management and in ever-changing requirements in this demanding and challenging era.
"I now have more confidence and I am less angry." "I have learnt to handle my emotions and actions when I’m upset or stressed." These two quotes were from students on an eight week SPERO course exploring difficult emotions and how to manage them, improving communication styles and relationships.
“I practiced being mindful before bed and focused on my feet first, then all up my body and it helped me to sleep better” This was said by a young person in a group learning mindful living techniques in order to better to engage with life in the here and now and be more balanced in sensing and thinking.
"Simon and Maggie never judge us or our stories" These are the words of someone who was working on managing anger and coping with life's many difficulties at a time of feeling very isolated and unaccepted.
